TAMPA. Fla. — Tampa’s Stacy Garcia is the founder and chief executive officer of “Rehabilitation of the Heart.”

Garcia’s non-profit has a mission of helping those who feel helpless in the face of adversity.

The group specializes in helping those returning to society after years in prison, something that is heartbreakingly close for her.

“My father was sentenced to 17 years in prison,” Garcia said. “My brother is serving life in prison.”

Garcia said that when her dad was released from prison, he had a difficult time finding his way back into society.

In the end, he committed suicide.

While trying to find her own strength, she began the organization one year ago to help save others.

“They have a second chance in life,” Garcia said of helping people coming out of prison. “They can provide for their family. They can be a father. They can be a member of society.”

Garcia said her organization is taking a major step to provide the tools, to make that ‘member of society’ goal a reality.

“We are in the process of opening a vocational training school,” she said. “We have open enrollment beginning in 2023. It will be offering CDL licensing, auto glass installation and welding.”

Rehabilitation of the Heart's long list of objectives also includes feeding the homeless, mental health class for parents and focusing on low income disadvantaged children and families.

“We went to a local area that we know struggles a lot, Rowlett Park, and were able to give away one hundred back packs, full of supplies, to kids,” Garcia said of an event last year. “It was a phenomenal day.”

The new non-profit is looking for sponsors and volunteers and financial assistance. ~Bill Murphy
